Good Hope Nursery is now also offering pre-booked guided fynbos walks. There is an easy walk or a moderate walk available along the fynbos mountain side, with breathtaking vistas of the Plateau Rd valley and the Atlantic Ocean. Included are interesting fynbos facts for young and old as well as a fynbos picnic snack stop. If you prefer to just meander around on your own, the walk is accessible to visitors of the nursery in opening hours. Dogs on leads are welcome and the nursery has a playground for kids and a lovely outdoor tea garden.

We are preparing for a very dry summer as this winters rainfall has been low- so plan your garden accordingly i.e. avoid using high maintenance, water loving plants. If you have a relatively established garden, look at what has done well and repeat. If you are starting a new garden, look at using water-wise species, preferably local and endemic and use a lot of mulch (Heavier mulches are better as they don't rot or blow away as quickly).

PLANT OF THE MONTH
Gnidia pinifolia

This hairless shrublet is a very tough fynbos grower. It prefers sandy slopes as opposed to low lying coastal areas. Likes our winter rainfall yet can deal with summer drought. Flowers in delicate cayxl, tubular clusters ranging from white to pink. If standing solitary, it can grow up to half a metre - A round, fairly compact bush. If surrounded by other plants, it can grow bigger.
